NCI is a multi-disciplinary engineering firm established by Ernest Ch’ang in 1985 and incorporated in Ohio. We have grown to four offices in the tri-state area, and maintain two offices statewide including facilities in both Northwest and Southwest Ohio.

The Leader: Jon Drummond, PE

Bridge Department Manager

With over 23 years of bridge experience, 21 of those at NCI, Jon is no stranger to complex projects, and unique challenges. A PE in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana, he has worked on over 160 projects involving the design of 200 bridges & culverts; preliminary engineering & scoping of 70 bridges; safety inspections of 300 bridges; and load rating of 120 structures!

Project Engineer

A University of Michigan graduate and 6 year veteran of NCI, Brett already has significant experience in design, proposal writing, and client management. A leader at NCI, Brett’s passion for engineering has led him to take on increasingly challenging projects and roles which have contributed to his rapid professional development. Along with his enthusiasm for bridge design, Brett also loves running, and has a talent for ordering amazing pizza combinations. He joined NCI because of the opportunity to advance and stays because of the support and amazing work environment.

As NCI’s leading professional surveyor in Ohio, Mr. Mihelcic is responsible for managing and coordinating survey and right-of-way activities.  A graduate of the University of Dayton with over 15 years of experience, his dual engineering-survey background makes him a huge asset to the NCI team.

Entry Level Bridge Engineer #2

  • Responsibilities

  • Field survey/inspections (does not require previous experience)
  • Prepare design computations and quantity estimates
  • Use engineering, design and CADD software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents and construction plans
  • Assist in the completions of reports
  • Keep Project Managers informed of work load, any required updates to project scope or potential additional services to offer
  • Be able to attend meetings or events outside of normal working hours
  • Communication with clients
  • Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering at an ABET accredited college or university
  • Passionate about Indianapolis, Indiana
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) certificate or preparing to obtain
  • Very responsive to client needs
  • A strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet deadlines
  • Continuous learning mindset
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil 3D, and Microstation/Geopak is a plus, but not required
  • Taking ownership of your projects

Q: What should you know before coming to work at NCI?

A: “You should expect to do a lot of different things. You have to dip your toes into many facets of civil engineering depending upon the specific project you are working on (structural, geotech, hydraulics, etc.). Writing proposals and discussing projects with other engineers, contractors, and clients is also an important part of the job, so having strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.”

How soon will I hear back?

We take time to thoroughly review every application that is sent to NCI. Incoming applications are processed daily by our hiring specialist, and our managers and hiring team meet a minimum of once a month to review all potential applicants. Because of the high number of applicants, we cannot reach out to everyone, but if we think you are a good fit, we will contact you to set up the next step in the process.

Do you offer Internships/Co-ops?
